Thunderbird Mail Filtering

Mozilla Thunderbird is an open source email client that has become a popular alternative to Microsoft Outlook. CSEE no longer supports Outlook Express or Eudora and is encouraging new users to start off using Thunderbird or Pine as their primary email client. To facilitate this, we provide here some links to tutorials and other points of interest about Thunderbird.

Junk Mail

Junk Mail, or Spam, is an ever increasing problem for users of email. As such, many email clients have added spam filters and there are even more third party filters out there as well. Thunderbird has reasonably good built in spam filters and to help you understand how it works, please see the links below.

Filtering

Normally when you receive email it is put in your inbox. When you frequently get e-mail from people or mailing lists you can easily sort it by using filters. Filters separate your mail automatically however you want them to. You can have filters put messages in different mailboxes based on who they are from or what they're about. You can even use filters to automatically reply to mail and deal with spam. Below are some links to tutorials that describe how to make your own filters.
