TextPad is a fantastic text editor for the Win32 platform. It boasts quite a few nice features:
There is no cost to your center to install the fully-licensed version of TextPad on an CSEE machine.
You'll first want to download the latest copy of TextPad from the web at http://www.textpad.com/download. Run the program you download and follow the instructions for installation.
Then contact manager to get the license key for your machine.
You'll need to place this license key into your main TextPad directory. The next time you open TextPad, OGI's name will appear in its "About" box.
To find out more about TextPad, visit the TextPad home page.
X-Win32 is a full-featured X-windows server that runs locally on your Windows machine. It allows you to display graphical Unix-based programs (everything from xterms on up) on your Windows desktop. Please go to the X-Win32 home page for more information on the product.
Full-time faculty and staff should contact manager to secure a copy for their on-campus systems.
Students, on the other hand, must purchase their copies directly from Starnet. (We don't have the facilities to be a reseller of the product.) Please go to StarNet's Pricing and Order form. There you'll see information about StarNet's special student licensing program.
The Student-X-Connect program allows currently enrolled students to purchase their own licensed copy of the X-Win32 PC-X server for just $60 -- a considerable discount from the normal educational price of $149 or comercial price of $249.
When running the installation program, be sure to select a "custom" install, and be certain that all of the options are selected. This will make sure that you've installed the proper fonts for running the Solaris Common Desktop Environment, which may be missing otherwise.
